                                CID PERMANENT PROGRAMS

                                       of world-wide scope


 
1. World Dance Day

Every year Dance Day is celebrated all over the world, on the 29th of April. Initiated by CID in 1982 and

monitored constantly.


 
2. Who's Who in Dance

A global directory, since 1999. Website and database with more than 150,000 addresses from over 200

countries, constantly updated: www.cid-unesco.org/directory


 
3. UNESCO projects

Within its formal consultative relations with UNESCO, CID carries out projects financed by UNESCO under its

various programs.


 
4. Circulars

Members and other dance professionals are informed regularly on scholarships, grants, invitations to perform,

conferences, calls for research reports, publications, festivals, competitions and other opportunities of multi-

national scope.

 
5. Virtual Library

Books, magazines and DVDs authored or edited by CID members are listed and the list is circulated world wide.

Thus, they can be obtained directly from the authors, at a reduced price. Articles are listed separately and their full
texts circulated freely.


 
6. Dance Research Congress

Annual scientific congress with strict specifications, the largest in the world: 700 specialists from 64 countries in

2006. 21 congresses since 1987. Combined with a trade fair where choreographers, teachers and suppliers of

dance-related products can showcase their work.


 
7. Dance in the World Today

A series of regional congresses attracting dance professionals from about 20 countries each time. Venues since

2001: Paris, Belgrade, Montevideo, Skopje, Nicosia, Ohrid, Istanbul, Urgup.


 
8. DanceMobility

Exchange of visits among choreographers, educators, companies, researchers in different countries. About 50

exchanges a year since 1990.


 
9. Dance History Gallery

Series of CD-ROMs with works of art on dance. So far 7 CD-ROMs have been issued, containing 14,000

images.


 
10. Dance History Sources

An archive containing texts and pictures relative to dance before 1900, in several languages. To be issued as a

series of books and albums.


 
11. VideoDanse

Annual competition of choreographies on video or DVD; entries from about 50 countries. Since 1988.


 
12. Dance in Poetry

Collection of poems on dance in various languages. So far 3 anthologies have been published; they include

works by great poets in English, in French and in Greek respectively. An anthology of poems in Spanish will

follow. A CD-ROM with more than 1,500 poems is in preparation.


 
13. Dance on Postage Stamps

Encouraging young dancers to collect postage stamps depicting dance. A complete catalogue has been

published; it has been awarded medals in 7 international philatelic exhibitions.


 
14. Dansothèque

A virtual library of video cassettes or DVDs, recording aspects of dance heritage and distributed directly by

individual producers.


 
15. The Orchesis portal

A large portal serving the needs of the global dance community: teachers, choreographers, researchers,

suppliers, dancers and others. Covering all forms of dance: from ballet to butoh, from the bamba to belly dance.


 
Numerous other projects are conducted on a regional scale by CID members.
