02.  Electronic books
Publisher invites authors to submit books on dance, whether unpublished or already published. Priority will be given to books listed in the CID-UNESCO Library, to be consulted at  www.cid-unesco.org

03.  Patriarch supports dance

His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew, spiritual leader of all orthodox Christians, granted an audience to the President of CID-UNESCO and expressed His support for dance as a means for social cohesion.

04.  Gifts
There is a number of gifts available free of charge to Members, such as books, pins, silver pendants, gold-plated medals, tee-shirts, key-holders etc. They cannot be sent by mail as it is costly, and in some countries the envelope is lost. Probably the only way is to ask friends who happen to travel there to pick them up from our offices and give them to you.

04.  FIFA World Cup
What FIFA is for football CID is for dance. Football attracts hundreds of millions of fans because there is FIFA to oversee it. When all dancers will unite under CID-UNESCO dance will be as strong as football. Performances will have ten times more spectators, schools will have ten times more students, sponsors will rush to offer money. Unity is strength.


05.  Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo
CID Executive Secretary Ms. Lambrini Raikou was invited to attend the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo, Norway.


06. CID Section in Beyoglu, Turkey
Announcing the establishment of a CID-UNESCO Section in Beyoglu, a municipality in the center of Istanbul, Turkey. The Section is now officially recognized and available for direct contacts and cooperation.


07.  Ballet Festival in Saint-Petersburg
The 10th Ballet Festival to take place in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, from 30 March to 5 April 2011 is open to applications. It includes: gala, series of master-classes, round tables for the teachers and choreographers, exhibition of ballet photography.


08.  Various folk festivals
Travel agency proposes various festivals for folk groups in 2010: Turkey 11-17 June or 2-10 July or 13-20 July or 20-24 July. Bulgaria 5-10 July or 10-15 July. Tunisia any one week from 1 June to 30 September. Spain 8-13 September. Tunisia one week from 31 October to 11 November. Malta 26 December to 2 January 2011 or from 27 December to 3 January 2011.

04.  Congress proceedings

01.  Invitations to the World Congress
To apply for funding or visa, members who need a written invitation to the World Congress in Riga, Latvia (12-16 July 2010), or to another CID Congress, should send request to the Secretariat.

02.  Scholarships for dancers and teachers
The San Luis Section CID-UNESCO offers scholarships for residencies and study tours to Spanish-speaking dancers, teachers and dance scholars.

03.  Quadrille Dance Parade
On Friday 21 May 2010 at 12:00 the Quadrillle Dance Parade will take place. Dancing in town streets and squares on music from Fledermaus by Johan Strauss transmitted by satellite radio or TV.

04.  Executive Director wanted, London
Three touring dance companies seek Director. Suitable candidates will have experience as managers in any of the following areas: fundraising, marketing, arts administration, or the charitable sector.

05.  Rapprochement of Cultures
Members of CID-UNESCO can place events organized by them within 2010 under the UNESCO International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures. Ask us for information on how to register your events in the official list.

06.  Dancesport championships in Malaysia

07.  Dance on postage stamps website
One of the permanent programs of CID-UNESCO is presented now at the website  http://sites.google.com/site/danceonstamps  This programme aims at encouraging young dancers to collect postage stamps depicting dance.

08.  Scholarships for modern dance
Dance Center in Spain offers scholarships to study modern dance. Deadline 19 June 2010.

09.  Social dance congress

In the Netherlands 10-13 June 2010, total price 725 euros per person. Organized by the Dutch Association of Dance Teachers.

10.  University position
Teaching dance technique, composition and improvisation. Also dance appreciation, world dance, anatomy and kinesiology for dancers, jazz dance, social dance, ballet, modern dance, folk dance forms.

11.  Festival for children
Competition for the Great Prize of Folklore will take place in Spain 16-19 September 2010. Folk dance groups of children are invited to take part.

12.  CID World Congress in Greece
Announcing the World Congress on Dance Research in Didimoticho, Greece, 6-10 July 2011. The venue is very near Turkey and Bulgaria, so one can visit all three countries in a few days.

13.  Dance for fitness in the USA
CID-UNESCO Members in the USA are encouraged to place their activities under the Let's Move Initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama, as well under the President's Council on Physical Fitness.

02.  CID World Congress in Latvia
Call for the 26th World Congress on Dance Research, to take place in Riga, capital of Latvia, 12-16 July 2010.
Send proposals for presentations (lectures on theoretical subjects, stage performances, demonstration classes on teaching methods,
exhibitions, video projections etc.) to be included in the program. All forms of dance, all countries, strictly non-profit, organized
by the Riga Section of CID-UNESCO with government support. Registrations are open.

03.  Oriental dance festival in Spain
23-25 April 2010 in Malaga. Theme is "la Belle Epoque". Registrations are open.

04. Dance tour to Cuba
The tour revolves around Cuban dance, music and culture. Including things that one does not find in a guidebook. 8-22 July 2010.

05.  Dances of the world
To illustrate your brochures, websites, events, or classes, you can use photographs from the UNESCO databank.
Just type "dance" in the keyword window.

06.  Scholarships for dance critics
Three scholarships of $500 for emerging writers with less than three years of professional experience, as well as for more experienced dance critics.

07.  Malaga Congress postponed
The Congress in Malaga has been postponed, after negotiations with the Municipality regarding financial support.
City of venue to be announced shortly. Probable dates 17-21 November 2010.

08.  Fee reminder
To continue being a Member of CID-UNESCO send membership fee for 2010.

09.  Conference on Medicine and Dance
In Monaco 01-04 April 2010 including lectures, workshops, performances and classes.

10.  Symposium in Korea
In Gwang-ju 18-21 May 2010 in view of establishing an Asian Dance Company representing South-West Asian countries.
Co-organized by SIDance and the Seoul Section of CID-UNESCO, under the auspice of the Korean Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Tourism.
Asian dance specialists are welcome to register.

11.  Salon de la Danse
An international exhibition to take place in Athens, Greece, presenting works of art showing dancers: paintings, water colors,
engravings, sculptures, drawings. The Paris Salon de la Danse has been an annual event for the past 25 years.
Artists are invited to send their works. Organized by the Athens Section CID.

01.  Dance Day Preparations
It is time to start preparations for celebrating Dance Day 29 April. This is the most widespread program of CID-UNESCO, millions of dancers all over the world take part each year. Read details and proposals in the CID website.

02.  CID Members in Haiti
With great sorrow we announce the death of Dominique Richez at the earthquake in Haiti. She was going to found the Haiti Section of CID and be its first President. We have no news regarding the other 20 CID members there. One week before the disaster they held a meeting to found the Haiti Section. After the meeting, Michel Francois Jacques, a Haitian member who owns a ballroom dance school in Florida, flew back to Miami and is thus safe.

03.  Provisions for dancers
Provider of books on dance, magazines, CDs, DVDs, as well as aromatic oils for dancers invites authors and publishers to make proposals for collaboration. Searching for rare books and sending orders world-wide

04.  Books and magazines on dance
Authors or editors of books on dance are invited to send them for inclusion in the CID-UNESCO Virtual Library of the Dance. Researchers and dance historians consider it the most basic tool, a primer. Magazine and DVD editors are also invited. Inclusion is free of charge, naturally.

05.  Honorary Member
Princess Caroline of Hanover, Hereditary Princess of Monaco, graciously accepted honorary membership of CID-UNESCO. Her Royal Highness is a patron of Monaco Dance Forum and a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. During her youth she took ballet lessons at the Marika Besobrasova School of Dance in Monte-Carlo.
 
06.  Free educational material
Brazilian dance company sends documentaries to schools, libraries, dance foundations, ONGs, free of charge.

07.  CID World Congress in Argentina
Call for presentations for the 27th World Congress on Dance Research, to take place in La Falda, Cordoba, Argentina, 5-9 January 2011. 09.  Fraudulent conference announcements
The UNESCO Union of International Associations warns against fraudulent conference announcements. An increasing number of email scams are using International NGOs, development agencies, international conferences, workshops etc. as the hook to defraud or cheat unsuspecting recipients. 10.  CID Section in Rostov
Announcing the establishment of a CID-UNESCO Section in Rostov, Russia. The Section is now officially recognized and available for direct contacts and cooperation. Several other Sections are in preparation in Russia, including one in Siberia.

16-30 June 2010 on the Black Sea coast, inviting dance, song and instrumental ensembles with members under 30 years years of age.

05.  Folk camp in Poland

06.  Street dance training in Paris

CID is happy to announce that Tango has been declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It was formally described as a musical genre that includes dance, music, poetry and singing, and is considered one of the main manifestations of identity for the inhabitants of the Rio de la Plata region, that is Uruguay and Argentina. Ask CID for the list of national dances recognized by UNESCO.

05.  Scam alert

Fake e-mails are circulating, claiming that the recipient has been selected to provide dance classes. They are no doubt part of a criminal scheme to defraud the recipient out of money and/or to steal personal information. If you receive such an e-mail, you should ask for written confirmation of the identity of the sender, or visit their website.

 

06.  Invitations to festival in India

Festival in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, is planning a festival over the weekends of February 2010. They are looking for 4 professional companies (more than 10 members each) to give 3 performances. They provide airfare, accommodation and board, plus 2000 dollars per performance (one and a half hour duration).

01.  General Conference of UNESCO in Paris

The 35th General Conference of UNESCO will take place from 6 to 23 October 2009 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Every country in the world will send a high level delegation, usually headed by a Minister. Members of the CID can ask to be included in the delegation of their country. Contact your National Commission for UNESCO, you will find its address at  www.unesco.org . Show your certificate of membership for 2009.

 

02.  World Congress 2009 in Malaga

Members having taken part in the 2009 congress in Malaga are kindly requested to send updated versions of their presentations, as well as  photos and videos taken there to the Malaga Section of CID for the proceedings DVD. Deadline is 30 September 2009.

 

03.  Award to deliver a lecture in the USA

Call for applications from residents of any country to present a lecture on previously unpublished research. The lecture will be delivered in October 2009 in Washington, D.C. The recipient of the award will receive round-trip travel and associated expenses. Applications must be received by 22 September 2009.

 

04.  Festival in Brazil

Combining festival, competition, exhibitions and discussion forum, in Amazonia, northern Brazil, 12 to 17 November 2009.

 

05.  University degree in Oriental dance

Public university in Italy launches studies for a Master's degree in Oriental dance. Deadline for registrations 20 September 2009.

01.  23rd World Congress in Malaga, Spain

Call for presentations (lectures, performances, classes, research reports, exhibitions). Deadline has been extended, registrations are still accepted. Official certificate is issued for visa and for financial assistance. 15 to 19 July 2009.

This is the largest and richest gathering of dance specialists world wide. All forms of dance are represented. Strictly non-profit. Not to be confused with festivals, workshops, competitions or open conferences.

 

02.  Salsa festival in Latvia

In the city of Riga 21-23 August 2009, including workshops with professional instructors, live orchestra, shows, night events, competition.

 

03.  Belly dance competition in Korea

International competition & costume festival, 11-13 September 2009 in Seoul.

05.  CID Section in Skopje

Announcing the creation of a CID Section in Skopje, capital of the FYR of Macedonia. The Skopje Section of CID is now officially recognized and available for direct contacts and cooperation.

 

06.  Vacancy for a Professor in Norway

07.  Warning: false organizations

We receive many complaints from members who receive invitations to congresses, festivals, workshops etc. from false organizations claiming international status. Please be careful before registering. Ask for our guidelines on how to verify if the sender is genuine.

 

08.  New Acropolis Museum

On the occasion of the opening of the New Acropolis Museum in Athens, in presence of many heads of state and top personalities of culture, the Dora Stratou Dance Theatre dedicates its performance of that date to this magnificent event. The Theatre is located near the Museum and has been giving performances daily since 1953. The opening will take place on the 20th of July and will be covered by most TV stations in the world.

 

09.  18th General Assembly of the CID

It will take place in Malaga on 19 July 2009. If you cannot attend ask for information on how to vote by sending a proxy or by letter.

01.  CID World Dance Congress
To apply to the Spanish Consulate for visa, or to sponsors for financial assistance, in order to attend the CID 23rd World Dance Congress taking place this year in Malaga, Spain, 15-19 July, ask for certificate of registration.

02.  Farewell to Maximova
On April 30 Ekaterina Sergeevna Maximova one of the world's most famous ballerinas was buried near Galina Ulanova's tomb at the main national cemetery, the Novodevichy monastery in Moscow. She was a member of CID-UNESCO. Her husband Vladimir Vassiliev, a world-famous ballet dancer and teacher, is also a Member.

03.  Festival in Brazzaville, Congo
Including workshops on choreography and performances in various locations, 10 to 27 October 2009.

04.  Tango festival
In London, 13 to 15 November 2009.

05.  Various festivals
In Tunisia, Malta, Dubai, Sicily and Slovenia. Represented by an agency which is Member of CID. Applications must be sent urgently.

06.  Folk dance competition
In Croatia 18-20 September 2009. Inviting all groups. Fee is 85 euros per person, including accommodation and full board.

07.  Festival in the Netherlands
Near the border with Germany, from 11 till 15-08-2009, invites adult ensemble - dancers with musicians. Eating and stay is in families.

08.  CID World Dance Congress

Istanbul CID Congress

The Istanbul Section of CID will host for the third time the international congress, 8-

12 April 2009. You are invited to showcase your work or simply attend, together

with dance practitioners from many countries. The venue is in the heart of the city,

10 minutes walking from
Taksim Square. As in all CID congresses the program

includes: research reports (papers), lectures, classes, performances, video

projections, exhibitions, evenings, opening cocktail & gala dinner, visits to places of

special interest. All forms of dance are represented. Strictly non-profit. Not to be

confused with festivals, workshops, competitions, forums or open conferences.

02.  Dance Day 29 April


It is time to start preparations to celebrate Dance Day 29

April. Guidelines and the official message will follow in February.  CID Sections and

members can contact their country's National Commission for UNESCO - find its

address at  www.unesco.org

We want to involve municipal and government authorities so that celebrations take

place everywhere. Every dance school and every dance company in the country

should stage an event on Dance Day, attracting media attention. Let us make

Dance Day as widely known as Mother's Day.


03.  Training in Cultural Management

Opening for a trainee in Cultural Management, all expenses paid (travel plus

residence) in
Spain. Applications are expected urgently.

 

04.  CID Congress in Malaga, Spain

The first CID Congress in
Spain is announced for 15-19 July 2009. The city is

Malaga
, not Granada as previously announced. Most probably it will be combined

with the CID General Assembly. Members can ask for a personal invitation to

attend, to be used for application for funding submitted to public or private

sponsors.

01. Mariemma died

One of the great figures of Spanish dance died in
Madrid at the age of 91.

Mariemma had been Delegate for Spain of CID for many years, and later was

named Honorary Member of CID, one of the very few persons to hold that title.



 
02. Grants for study in Norway

Covering travel and living costs for residency in a dance research institution in


Norway
. Deadline for applications 03/09/2008, duration of residency is 1 to 12

months, earliest starting date
01/01/2009.



 
03. CID Section in Cordoba, Argentina

Announcing the foundation of a CID Section in the city of
Cordoba, Argentina. CID

members are getting together to found CID Sections in various other cities around

the world.



 
04. Final report of the 22nd World Congress in Athens

The biggest gathering of dance specialists was attended this year by 442 CID

members from 51 countries of the 5 continents.

Its content broke all records: the program included 234 presentations:

49 research reports

53 lectures

42 classes on all forms of dance, by
42 teachers

67 performances - solos, duos and ensembles

10 video projections

13 exhibitions

11 university professors from 6 countries served as members of the Scientific

Committee.

40 CID members worked hard as volunteers within the Congress Team.



 
05. 23rd World Congress announcement

The 23rd World Congress will take place 1-5 July 2009 in
Athens. Researchers,

teachers, choreographers and performers representing all forms of dance are

06. Festival in Malta

Folk dance groups from all countries are invited to a festival in
Malta 29-30

December 2008, stay 7 nights/8 days. Cash prizes of 3000, 2000 and 1000 euros.

01. The 22nd World Dance Congress
Last reminder for submission of presentations (papers, performances, lectures,

classes, exhibitions, video). Absentee presenters can register too. Participants can

attend without a presentation. 700 dance professionals from 64 countries attended

in 2006, making it the biggest and richest gathering of dance professionals ever.

02. Christian Dance Conference in Italy

III International Christian Dance Conference in Florence, Friday 13 to Sunday 15th

June. All disciplines taught for all ages (ballet, fitness, techno, hip hop, modern jazz,

05. Vacancy in University, USA

To teach three sections of ballet during the fall semester of 2008. Salary in the

neighbourhood of $12,000 for half-time work. Required bachelor's degree and

University in the
Netherlands has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in dance

05. Folk festival in Cyprus

In Larnaca, 12-16 September 2008. 20 groups from Mediterranean countries and 5

06. University studies in Canada

University offers PhD in Dance Studies, which will focus on two fields: Dance

Ethnography & Cultural Research, and Dance History & Heritage Studies. It also

offers an MFA in Choreography and Dance Dramaturgy.

A portal containing massive information on Greek dances in now open:

5,000 texts, 23,000 pictures, 4,000 video, 7,000 recordings. The project was

financed by the European Union and the Ministry of Culture with 600,000 euros (1

08.CID Section at the City of Mexico

Members in the Federal District of Mexico founded a CID Section in January. CID

Pesident Dr. Alkis Raftis was present. The Executive Committee is composed of

Ms. Patricia Aulestia, president, Mr. Hector Garay and Ms. Solange

Lebourges, vice-presidents, Ms. Margarita Caceres, General Secretary and Ms.

Lisette Awar, Treasurer. CID Sections in other states of the Federal Republic of

Mexico will be founded in the near future.

06.European policy on dance

The European Union has specified three axes for its policy concerning dance: a)

Training of dancers. b) Creation and dissemination of dance. c) Social integration

through dance. The EU has issued calls for tenders for various projects

on culture and education.

 



07.Scholarships to young dancers

Dancers/choreographers aged 22 to 28 with a good knowledge of English. Quality

of dance background is the main criteria for participation.



 


08.Choreography in urban spaces, Germany

Call for proposals from choreographers experimenting with particular features of a

specific space: urban environment, architecture, emptyness, advertising, rubbish,

stress, a corner, a park, a housedoor, a museum’s entrance, a bus stop etc.

Aimed at emerging choreographers, to find new professional talents within

                                     CID Circulars


 
1. The International Dance Council CID keeps its active members informed via

Internet by monthly newsletters issued by the President's Office. This is one of the

permanent programs of the CID. These programs have necessarily a world-wide

scope
: matters of national or local range are excluded. Languages are English

and/or French; being constitutionally the two working languages of CID, translation

from one to the other is not obligatory. The editors reserve the right to accept a

news item; they bear no responsibility for the accuracy of information submitted.



 
2. Circulars are strictly non-commercial, since CID has nothing to sell.

Announcements are member-to-member information. Invitations are addressed to

individuals, dance schools or dance ensembles in their capacity as CID members.

No advertisements will be included and no fee asked by CID for posting an

announcement.



 
3. Subjects included are:

3.1. Scholarships, grants, bursaries and other forms of financial assistance to

dancers, choreographers, teachers, researchers and others involved in dance, as

dispensed by non-profit institutions, foundations and state or private agencies.


3.2. Invitations to dance ensembles or individuals to perform, to teach or to lecture.

 
The hosting organization must be an active CID member or include several CID

members in its governing body.


3.2. Calls for participation in conferences, workshops, festivals etc. where active

CID members have advantages over non-members, such as an important discount

in fees, precedence in registration or in treatment, preferential use of facilities etc.


3.1. New books or DVDs authored or edited by CID members.


 
4. Criteria for the inclusion of news items are:

4.1. Space available: since Circulars have to be very short to remain effective and

not tire readers.


4.2. Scope: which is proportional to the number of countries involved in the

organization of the event.


4.3.
 Range: that is the number of members world-wide liable to be interested or to

take part.


4.4. Particularity: CID Circulars are not meant to supplant dance magazines or

national newsletters by entering the domain of dance journalism or dance criticism.


4.5. Involvement: that is the degree to which CID is participating in organizing the

event.


4.6. Cohesion: precedence is given to messages promoting cooperation and the

establishment of bonds between members.
